Perimenopause is a pivotal chapter in every woman’s story—a time of transformation that deserves recognition, understanding, and celebration. As we honor Perimenopause Awareness Month, I want to share not just the science but my own journey and unwavering commitment to helping women thrive through this transition.

My Journey: From Patient to Advocate

I didn’t set out to become a champion for women in midlife. Like many of you, I was blindsided by the subtle, then not-so-subtle, changes that crept into my own life. I remember the restless nights, the unpredictable mood swings, and the nagging sense that something just wasn’t right—even though every “routine” lab test told me I was “fine.” I didn’t set out to become a champion for women in midlife. Like many of you, I was blindsided. For me, it started years ago with fibroids that ultimately led to a hysterectomy — an experience that left me navigating perimenopause without the signals of a normal cycle to guide me. What followed was even more disorienting: the brain fog that made it hard to focus, the dips in concentration, and the creeping weight gain that didn’t respond to what had always worked before.

And then came something I’d never faced before—new findings of metabolic changes. Elevated cholesterol. A1C creeping higher. Blood pressure numbers that didn’t belong to me. For the first time in my life, I was sitting across from lab results that labeled me with a “metabolic disorder.”

It wasn’t just physical; it was deeply emotional. The body I had always been able to count on suddenly felt unfamiliar. And the most frustrating part? Routine labs often came back stamped as “normal,” while I knew in my bones that nothing about this felt normal. And even when they were abnormal, there was no plan to stop them from progressing toward the wrong trajectory. Just a “see you next year”. And that wasn’t good enough. Not for me, and it shouldn’t be for anyone navigating this part of life.

As a physician, I was trained to look for disease, but not always to recognize the nuanced shifts of perimenopause. It was only when I began to truly listen—to my patients and to my own body—that I realized how many women were suffering in silence, dismissed by the healthcare system, or left without real answers or a plan.

That’s when Path Health was born. My mission: to create a safe, supportive space where women could find real solutions, compassionate care, and a sense of community. I am passionate about guiding women through perimenopause with the respect, expertise, and partnership they deserve.

Understanding Perimenopause: Knowledge is Power

Perimenopause typically begins in your 40s, but symptoms can appear earlier or later. This stage is driven by hormonal fluctuations that impact your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Common symptoms include:

If you’re experiencing any of these, know that you’re not alone—and that your symptoms are real and valid.

Hormone Therapy: A Spotlight on Science, Safety, and Empowerment

One of the most misunderstood—and underutilized—tools for managing perimenopause is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). For many women, BHRT can be life-changing, providing relief from hot flashes, night sweats, sleep issues, and even mood disturbances.

Here’s what you should know about hormone therapy:

I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate conflicting advice and misinformation about hormones. That’s why I’m committed to transparency, science, and ongoing support—so you never have to walk this path alone.

Why Awareness Matters: Breaking the Silence, Building Community

Raising awareness during Perimenopause Awareness Month is about more than just education—it’s about breaking the silence and ending the stigma. Too many women feel isolated, ashamed, or “crazy” for what they’re experiencing. Together, we can change the narrative.

By sharing our stories, seeking expert care, and supporting one another, we reclaim our power and rewrite what it means to thrive in midlife.
